ABOUT GLENN SOMODI
Award-winning author and illustrator
Glenn Somodi was raised by a school teacher and an engineer in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Journalism at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.
The inspiration for Draven’s Run came partly from his time as a volunteer and commander in a composite squadron of the Civil Air Patrol, an Air Force Auxiliary with roots dating back to 1941. Working alongside adults and cadets, he supported communities through emergency services, search and rescue operations, youth leadership development, cybersecurity, and aerospace education. Aviation, drones, computers, and technology played heavily in the Civil Air Patrol experience and are reflected in the storylines of this book.
As you will read in Draven’s Run, Somodi grapples with the differing viewpoints of wanting to secure the border but also offering more people the chance at the American dream, just as his great-grandparents had achieved through their journey, which started at Ellis Island.
He writes his stories in the short space between lying down and dreaming. The stories are written over many nights, replayed, and rewritten in his head for enjoyment. His mission is to find anyone who enjoys reading the stories as much as he enjoys creating them.
Inspired by some of his favorite childhood movies, like Star Wars and Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, he writes stories filled with fantasy, action, and adventure to spark the imagination of others.
Somodi is also the award-winning author of the Olly & the Spores book series (www.OllyAndTheSpores.com). Previous book awards include two First Place 2024 BookFest Awards for Juvenile-Action & Adventure, a 2024 American Fiction Award, a 2024 Book of the Year Finalist in The Golden Wizard Book Prize, Best Middle Grade Fiction in the 2023 Page Turner Awards, a Silver Medal in the 2023 Readers’ Favorite Book Awards, and a 2023 BookFest Award for his audiobook.
He is a proud member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI Ohio North) and also Literary Cleveland.
